Rest at Jesus' Feet

Rest at Jesus’ Feet

In John 19:30 when Jesus cried “It is finished!” on the cross at Calvary, He had accomplished everything Father God had sent Him to do on Earth – pay the price for all our sins, become sin for us, save us, redeem us, be the atoning sacrifice for our sins and more. Jesus had completed everything necessary for us to be in right standing with our heavenly Father and everything necessary for us to enjoy the free favors of God. As born-again believers, we must believe this and come to Jesus and ask Him for whatever we need and rely on Him for everything. Then, after asking, we thank Him, believing that what we have asked for is already done. We must stop trying to do things in our own efforts and rest at Jesus’ feet. Rest is not inactivity or no activity; rest is trusting in Jesus and allowing Him to lead us, guide us and direct us with His wisdom and His solutions.

  • Come to Jesus and Rest.   Our Abba Father likes it when we come to Jesus in faith. It grieves Him when we hesitate to come to Him or try to depend on our own efforts. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6); therefore, we can come to Him and be assured of finding rest. Jesus says in Matthew 11:28, “Come unto me all you who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.”

  • Follow the People in the Bible and Go to Jesus.  In Matthew 9:18, Jairus, a ruler of the synagogue, came and asked Jesus to heal his daughter. The woman with the issue of blood came to Jesus in Matthew 9:20-21 and touched the hem of His garment. (She was at His feet.) In Luke 10:39, Mary sat at Jesus’ feet, and Jesus called that “the good part” (Luke 10:42). In Matthew 15:22-28, the Canaanite woman came to Jesus and asked Him to heal her daughter. All these people had a need, and they went to Jesus. In the book of Ruth, Naomi and Ruth went to their kinsman-redeemer Boaz. We are in Jesus’ family, so we go to Him; He is our Kinsman-Redeemer. Jesus is our heavenly Boaz. Pastor said we are married to Jesus, so don’t go around committing spiritual adultery (going to other people). Jesus does not turn away anyone who comes to Him for help.

  • Rely and Totally Depend on Jesus for Everything.  In 2018, Jesus wants us to rely and totally depend on Him for everything, not ourselves. His grace gives us all the good things we don’t deserve, while His mercy protects us from all the bad things we do deserve. Jesus came to serve us; He wants us to rest, not worry. That’s why in Matthew Chapter 6, He tells us not to worry about what to eat, what to wear or about tomorrow.  Take everything -- all of your cares and concerns -- to Jesus. Keep your eyes on Him and His finished work and you will begin to see His grace and His provisions flow freely in your life!

  • Think It, Believe It, Say It, Possess It: Thank You Abba Father for sending Your Son Jesus to supply everything I need to live an abundant, successful, grace-filled life while here on Earth. Your goodness and Your love is amazing. As I go to Jesus, I will find rest for my soul. I am so very grateful for Your grace and provision that flows freely in my life, in Jesus’ name. Amen!!
