Focus/Meditate On This:
Your Abba Father, “Daddy God,” wants you to rest and let Him take care of everything that concerns you. The frantic pace of life -- the hustle and bustle in the world -- force-fits us all into a mold of normalcy, according to the world’s standards. The news, social media, emails, work – all these snatch away our peace and overwhelm our senses; our lives get caught in an uproar of demands. Every need and situation call to us, demanding our attention, crying out for us to act, to respond, to try harder, to grip tighter, to do something. On the inside of us, the Lord calls to us; His Spirit speaks telling us there is a better way to break free from the burdens, to cast away every care, to refuse to worry, to fight to stand still, to labor to keep our hearts at peace, to step into a new measure of freedom -- to let go and to rest. Our Heavenly Father wants us to pause, to take time to enjoy those around us, to live this abundant, successful life He intended for us – Daddy God wants us to REST!!!
Rest In the Things of God. The Word of God contains God’s prescription for rest. Matthew 22:44 says it like this, “Sit thou on my right hand till I make thine enemies thy footstool.” In other words, stop engaging the enemy (don’t entertain him)! Rest! When you rest, God works to make your enemies your footstool. God wants us forever young, forever having joy, forever peaceful. God has already taken care of the enemy; our job is to keep our minds focused on the things of God, enforce God’s Word (His spiritual laws) in our lives and rest in Jesus’ finished works.
- Rest is the Promised Land. God has called us to the Promised Land – a land flowing with milk and honey (Exodus 33:3), a land where we live in houses we did not build, we drink from wells we did not dig, and we eat fruit we did not plant (Deuteronomy 6:11 & Joshua 24:13). We are no more slaves. We are kings and priests, and only kings can rest. When God brought the Israelites out of Egypt and they made it to the other side of the Red Sea, God drowned their enemies. In Hebrews 3:7-19, He admonishes us to not have a hardened heart and be a disobedient generation like the Israelites not believing in God’s Word. (Some of us are still acting like slaves, trying to make bricks out of mud and straw.) As we come to the Lord burdened and heavy laden, God promises to give us rest (Matthew 11:28). Pastor Hill said, “Get rid of the giants in your mind; don’t keep resurrecting them -- they are dead.’ This Promised Land of Rest is where all our needs are met, where we live a victorious, successful, abundant life – the GOOD life, the GRACE life – excelling in every area of life!
“Throne Attitude” – A Carefree Life. God wants us rest-conscious, not giant-conscious. The stress, worry, bills, sickness, poverty, lack and more represent giants in our lives. God is saying, “Don’t focus on that. Focus on resting in the finished work of My Son Jesus. He has taken care of all of that and more on the cross at Calvary.” Jesus is at the Father’s right hand, and we have to have that same “throne attitude” that Jesus has (1 John 4:17). Sit down, put your feet up and don’t be moved. God wants us to rule in the midst of our enemies (Psalm 110:1-2). When the enemy sets fires in your mind, don’t get caught up trying to put them out. Allow -- consent, agree to let -- the Lord put out the fires. You rest!!
Think It, Believe It, Say It, Possess It: Thank You Father God for encouraging us to rest. With everything that’s going on in the world, it is hard sometime to break free from all the stress, situations and demands in our lives; but, thank You Daddy God for Your Son Jesus, who has come to free us and to take us into the Promised Land of rest. We are grateful we can have a “throne attitude” like Jesus because as He is so are we in this world, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
